Lecture 19: Pump Testing
Learning Objectives
- Be able to finish assembly of the pump
- Be able to perform basic trouble-shooting to verify operation of the pump
- Be able to describe the shape of head versus flow rate curve for a pump
- Be able to describe the shape of the efficiency versus flow rate curve for a pump
- Be able to identify the no-flow and maximum flow points on head versus flow rate and efficiency versus flow rate curves
- Be able to perform the measurements necessary to measure pump performance: measure flow rate, head, power input
- Be able to reduce the raw data from pump performance measurements to obtain head versus flow rate and efficiency versus flow rate curves.
- Be able to complete the measurements necessary to measure pump performance: measure flow rate, head, power input
- Be able to make a polynomial curve fit to the head versus flow rate and efficiency versus flow rate curves
Lecture Slides and Notes
- Pump performance theory: pdf
Homework
The final report on your pump depends on your section. Consult your D2L page.
Supplement notes and videos
- Short video on modern manufacturing techniques used to make a phone dock in Portland Oregon
- much longer video (27 minutes) showing many CNC and other milling operations.
